Legal Framework and Protection

The Ciénaga Las Cucharillas Nature Reserve is protected by a set of state and federal laws that guarantee the conservation of its unique ecosystem and public access to its natural resources.

Constitutional Basis

The protection of the reserve has its roots in the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (Article VI, Section 19), which establishes as public policy the conservation, development, and use of the island's natural resources for the greatest benefit of its citizens.
